Shirley Dougan
Elfworks

Shirley Dougan lives in Mt. Evelyn a small town in the picturesque Dandenong Ranges in the state of Victoria, Australia. Shirley has a degree in teaching (Bachelor of Education - Arts & Crafts) and has been creating Original One-of-a-Kind Fantasy and Character Dolls since 1979. Shirley initially used potter's clay but found that a rather fragile material when fired. In 1983, Shirley changed mediums and has been using Polymer Clay now for over twenty years. Shirley makes Fantasy Figures - goblins, elves, pixies and faeries - the familiar characters from her childhood readings, and Character Dolls.

In the 1980's Shirley took part in several group art exhibitions, as well as three successful solo exhibitions at galleries. She has won ribbons and medals in doll shows throughout Australia and in March 1998 won five awards (including the "Judge's Choice" and "Best of Show") for one doll which she entered in the "Antelope Valley Doll Show" in California, U.S.A. Apart from private collections throughout the world, Shirley also has a goblin in "The Museum of Childhood" in Edinburgh, Scotland.

Shirley has been teaching adults how to make Character Dolls since 1997, using various techniques and classes that cater to all levels of ability. Shirley finds teaching an ongoing challenge and a rewarding experience.
