Joe Darin

Joe Darin's photographs have appeared in "Dolls", "Soft Dolls and Animals", "Doll Reader", "Contemporary Doll Collector", "Dollami" (German) and "Poppen & Geppetto' (the Netherlands) Magazines. Other of his images have been published in The Anatomy of a Doll, Designing the Doll, Finishing the Figure, The Love Formed Human (Japan), and in the Holiday Treasures at the White House brochure. He has taught seminars on photography in Santa Fe, New Mexico, Portland, Oregon, Billings, Montana and San Diego, California.
Joe has exhibited his professional photography in San Diego, Santa Fe and
Los Angeles and has presented a proposal for a photography book on
Western Mining Towns. He is currently a President of the board of
directors of the San Diego Museum of Art Artists Guild. He is also a member of the San Diego Art Institute.
Joe has been a licensed architect for 35 years designing and building
stores, hotels, restaurants, libraries, churches, banks, and single and
multi family residential projects. He also has worked in real estate
development, directing design and construction of commercial and multi
family residential projects.

Description of Seminar:
Do you want to learn simple and inexpensive ways to take stunning photographs of your art? If so, this is the seminar for you. No matter what experience level you have in taking photographs, by the end of this seminar you will be able to take photos of your art that you only imagined were possible. I have expanded and completely revised the seminar to cover photographing two dimensional as well as three dimensional artwork.
I have divided the seminar into two parts:

Differences in film cameras and films.
Digital cameras - how to select one to buy.
Digital cameras – how to use the one you have.
Part Two: (Five Weeks)

Using Light – natural light, flash and artificial lighting
Fundamentals of using an image editing software
Photo taking tips
Planning for publication
Working with a professional photographer
Storing and cataloguing your images

- Doll Medium: This seminar is designed for artists who create in all media: cloth, polymer clay, paper clay, stone clay and other air drying clays, bronze, ceramic, porcelain and mixed media artwork. This seminar also covers photographing two dimensional art as well as three dimensional art.
- Supplies Required: A Camera - digital or film
Film - if you are using a film camera.
A tripod if you have one.
Flash equipment if you have it.
Other lighting equipment and accessories as the seminar progresses, if you choose to purchase them.
A Notebook or blank diary.
- Pre-Class Work Required? Become familiar with the photographic equipment you already have including reading the manual(s) for each piece of equipment and get as thorough an understanding as you can.
- Is Previous Experience Required? No
- Recommended for Ages: All ages
- Computer Requirements: The sessions will be in Adobe Acrobat PDF format. A version of the software will be provided.
There is a virtual Discussion Board on Joe's website which during the period of time the class is in operation and open to registered students 24 hours a day. You just sign in with your password and read the sessions, print the sessions for your own notebook, ask questions, contribute to the questions of other classmates and upload pictures for comment.
