Online Seminars:

"Needle Sculpting for Heads/Faces in Cloth"

    Description of Seminar:
I have currently been writing three different seminars on Faces and Heads in Cloth. The first, Patterns for Heads/Faces In Cloth just concluded and a CD is available.

How would you feel if you knew more than one way to needle sculpt a face? And if your foreheads and chins didn't disappear when you stitched?
Okay, so I already can needle sculpt pretty good, but it really shows and the stitches actually distract from the face. Now what do I do?
Does facial expression happen in the mouth or the eyes and eye brows? Where exactly do the features go?
I think one of the most important parts of needle sculpting is to do the face a different way each time. In order to do this, you need to know the different stitches individually and what they create in terms of dips, valley, creases, bulges and so forth. So in this course, along with learning facial proportions and the location of the features of the face, we will study the techniques of each stitch and practice using it. This will allow you to create faces for different ages, for different ethnicities, with different expressions.
As an adjunct to these studies you will be doing the needle sculpting with fine cotton thread and thin needles which avoid holes and creases and help the sculpting stitches disappear and seem to become part of the structure of the face. You will crate the surface landscape of the face which will cast natural shadows according the lighting where the figure is placed rather than using two dimensional techniques of shading the faces which look wrong in the long run.
