Site update planned
Posted by dawnwich on Friday, May 30, 2008 (03:22:18) (146 reads)
The site will be undergoing a major re-design in the next month. When it is complete, it will be necessary to re-register. The new site should be simpler, and cleaner, and I hope it will suit our needs better. Most of the content will disappear after the re-design. The exceptions will be the archives for the mailing list, and a subset of the pictures in our challenge directory, which will still be available. If you have any comments about what you'd like to see in the new site, please leave them as a comment to this story, or in the forum.

I'm happy to announce that when you pick up a copy of Contemporary Doll Collector's January issue on page 48 you will find 2 images of my Ragmore dolls. Ameila and Velma are shown with a brief quote that I provided about their background. In addition to small local FL shows, we will be attend the Black Doll Convention next May in Mansfield, MA. Among all of the wonderful events there will be a celebration ceremony to honor the opening of the second black doll museum in the U.S. Please pick up a copy of the magazine and send me a note; I would love to hear your thoughts. Arty Party in the Woods, near Yelm, WA Oct. 19-21, 2007
Posted by siragwatkins on Wednesday, September 05, 2007 (01:20:03) (460 reads)
YOU’RE INVITED…TO AN ARTY PARTY IN THE WOODS!
Space is limited, so register now for the upcoming Arty Party in the Woods, hosted by the Northwest Artists & Crafters group. Next scheduled for October 19-21, 2007, the semi-annual weekend arts retreat costs just $75 per person for "semi-rustic" cabin lodging and 6 delicious meals, from Friday dinner to Sunday lunch. Located a few miles from Roy, Washington, at Brighton Creek, a Bahá'í Conference Center, the retreat is easy to get to, yet secluded enough for creative inspiration. Registration is limited to 24 guests, so reserve yours early.
The Arty Party in the Woods draws a variety of artist guests from the Pacific Northwest and Canada. Media represented include fiber arts, polymer clay, painting, music, photography, beadwork, collage, writing, mixed media and more. While impromptu lessons and demonstrations are held, the key feature of the Arty Party in the Woods is the chance to mingle and share techniques, materials, and creative energy with other artists and the opportunity for participants to work on specific projects of their own with other artists available for critique and inspiration.
Says Christine Hansen, who attended the group’s April 2006 Arty Party, “I’ve checked into other arts retreats offered in our region, and have found their registration fees quite steep. The registration for the Arty Party in the Woods is actually affordable for those of us with limited budgets. The main thing I loved about the retreat was that it provided a warm atmosphere where I could relax and not be ‘Mom.’ Instead, I was able to focus on completing my projects and starting a few new ones, while someone else cooked the meals and washed the dishes. I met some really great people and picked up pointers on techniques and materials that I wasn’t familiar with.”
While the focus is on art, Arty Party guests need not be “artists” to take advantage of this inexpensive weekend away—guests might prefer to catch up on reading or enjoy a stroll through Brighton Creek’s serene and beautiful 24 acres. Spouses are welcome, but there are no arrangements for children.
For more information, visit http://groups.yahoo.com/group/NWArtists_and_Crafters or call Leslie Sirag at (360) 705-2082 between noon and midnight. Information on Brighton Creek is available at http://www.brightoncreekbahai.org/index.html.
